Your impact: Angel shares her story

It has been just over six months since you helped us to launch our new life-saving projects for child mothers and survivors of sexual violence in Kampala. Thank you.

With your support the team have been able to help hundreds of young women and girls with programmes tailored to address their specific needs.

YOUR LONGTERM IMPACT

Angel (pictured above) shares how the projects you make possible has changed her life.

I was in senior four when schools closed. We were not able to do anything as we were in lockdown and food was very hard to come by. My mum became ill.

We were very hungry all the time. I still remember that feeling. When you are hungry it is impossible to think about anything else but I had to find ways to distract my younger sisters from hunger and crying.

I was very happy when I was chosen to join the skills training programme. I was so grateful to be learning and doing something positive for my future.

With the training I received from Awamu I was able to pass my *Directorate of Industrial Training exams and get my Workers Pas. Now I have a job training other women and girls. So far I have trained 30 people.

I’m so happy that I am now able to earn my own money. I’m able to help pay my mums medical bills and I support my siblings inschool. I promised them we will never be hungry again. Thank you.

I have achieved my first dream, to have a skill I love and to earn my own money. I feel very happy with that.

Thank you for giving girls like Angel the opportunity to change their lives.
