Young girls in red at Awamu's catch up school

DONATE TODAY AND HAVE YOUR DONATION DOUBLED!

YOUR DONATION DOUBLED FROM 28 Nov - 5 Dec!

A girl’s education changes everything. An educated girl is healthier, safer and empowered to determine the course of her own future.

Your support through our Big Give appeal will help provide a safe space for girls in the slums of Kampala. Helping them to learn, restoring hope and giving them the courage to rebuild their lives.

A generous pledger and The Coles-Medlock Foundation believe in the importance of our project and have given us a matched funding grant of £9202.

This means any donation you make to our appeal page between November 28 to the 5 December will be doubled!

Our Nansamba Education Centre is a lifeline for girls

Girls in the slums are more vulnerable since Covid when sexual violence & child motherhood soared.

Now they face overwhelming stigma and struggle to return to school. But don’t have the necessary skills for work, leaving them at high risk of violence, exploitation & abuse.

Your donations will help girls like Maureen, 15. She had been forced to marry a much older man before her 13th birthday. He died leaving her with no means of survival.

Catch up school has given me hope. The teachers make us feel we are worth something, we all have something to give. We have found friendship here and we [girls] all support each other

"Before the Awamu project, I was not used to studying, or taking part in school activities. Now I study every day." Maureen explains.

"I want to be an example for the project and help other girls who are in the same situation to me. I want to tell them no matter how low you feel, you can get back up again. I now see a bright future.”

Donate now and your gift will be DOUBLED at no extra cost to you:

Developed in consultation with girls themselves, we’ve successfully piloted this education programme for out-of-school girls aged 10-15 (child mothers and survivors of sexual violence).

The programme is led by specialist teachers. Through both academic and emotional recovery support, we help girls to integrate to mainstream schools to complete their education.

We have exciting plans to reach more girls with this vital project in 2024. We’ve secured funding for parts of the programme but need to raise another £18,404.

Thanks to the Big Give, anything you donate from today until 5 December will be MATCHED, so your gift goes twice as far. Could you chip in now – it takes just 2 minutes.
