The magic of mushrooms!

The magic of mushrooms!

Edith is a #womenmakinghistory in Bwaise, Kampala. She is changing lives, one new Mushroom Farmer at a time!

When Edith joined our skills training course, she started by learning how to grow and market mushrooms, now she shares the skills she has learnt with other mums and guardians.

Mushrooms have so many benefits to the women who now farm them. They’re easy to look after and require less intensive care than other crops.

All types of edible mushrooms contain protein and fibre. They also contain B vitamins as well as a powerful antioxidant called selenium, which helps to support the immune system (especially beneficial if you have HIV).

‘Learning these skills has changed my life completely. I’m so happy because now I can look after (my son) Joshua – before we struggled to survive everyday, but now we eat three times a day and I can save for things we need. I can’t believe how much our lives have changed.’

‘I like to share what I have learnt with others so they can have the same blessings I received. I think of you (our Awamu friends) everyday - thank you’.
