‘You gave me hope’ a tribute to Nansamba Kyegombe
This week marks the anniversary of the loss of an amazing woman Nansamba Kyegombe.
We never had the privilege of meeting Nansamba, but we know from her family, friends and colleagues that she was an extraordinary woman. Inspiring, genuine and making time to nurture those coming up the ranks behind her. Even choosing to think of others at her own funeral service.
With support from her family and friends we have set up the Nansamba Girls Education Fund.
The fund is used to support girls who would otherwise not be able to go back to school after lockdown. Helping to restore hope and giving girls the courage to strive for their dreams.
Some of those girls pay tribute to Nansamba
”During lock down we struggled to buy food. Mum had to close her business and she got sick. Awamu trained me to make cakes and liquid soap. I used this business to support my mum and little sister. I thought for a long time I would not get back to school. Being back is the greatest happiness to me. Thank you”
Irene
“Everyone told me I wouldn’t be able to go back to school again. I thought my life was over.
But you gave me hope that I should keep fighting to return to school when everyone was turning me away. Thank you for believing in me. I will show you what I can do”
Diana
“You have given me the opportunity to go to back to school. I’ll work hard and always remember it was you that made this possible for me. I found help when I needed it and now I have the chance to do the things I used to dream about. Thank you”
