Growing young leaders

Our community food gardens project will not only be a source of food for hundreds of children in the slums of Kampala. Children will also learn how to run their own enterprises and start their own saving circles from the profit they make selling the excess vegetable.

A small group of children have been part of an initial pilot of the project. As Hameria describes, the vital skills she has learnt are already giving those involved an income and a real sense independence.

Hameria and 24 other young people are now being trained as trainers so they can share their skills with other children in their community.

Their determination, new skills and experience will help to ensure the long-term success and impact of the project.

Thank you to Avanade, the Aspire Foundation and everyone that took part in our sunflower growing challenges for making this project possible for Hermira and all the children and women we work with in Kampala.
