Today we want you to share in a celebration because we could not do this without you...
A second chance to get an education
Last week we enrolled our first 52 girls into our new education programme. Our specialist teachers, including Ollie Beatrice (pictured above with one her new students), are teaching an accelerated learning curriculum. Giving hundreds of girls a second chance to complete their education.
The pandemic devasted girls lives in the slums. Many more girls are experiencing violence and are now missing out on their education.
Ollie Beatrice, explains “From the first day, I can see they are eager to learn and I know they will exceed even my expectations which are very high! The first step is to rebuild girls confidence. We are targeting girls who have experienced sexual violence or forced into early marriages then abandoned. They’ve had a trauma and are now experincing huge stigma within their communities. Many people believe girls should not to come back to school."
Our first class opened under canvas in a temporary space given to us by a local school we are working with. Winny, aged 15, was the first student to enrol last week. She describes her experience “For the first time since before lockdown I’m dreaming again. I already imagine myself as a nurse. This is something I haven’t let myself think about since schools closed during lockdown.”.
Thank you for helping girls dream again
We've worked hard to secure support from some key funders including L'Oreal Fund for Women. We thank them for their belief in us and the girls who are working hard to rebuild their lives.
In the next few weeks we will be opening the doors to our first 'Nansamba Community Learning Centre’. The centre will help more than 200 girls complete their education over the next few years.
Thank you again for all your support.
